It's called Les Loulous because that's what I call my little ones.
So that's what I decided to call my business.
My name's Bénédicte and I own this store.
We sell children's clothing.
Before I set up my own business I was a chemist.
I worked in industry and had to move around a lot.
But I increasingly found that I wanted to devote more time to my family.
This opportunity came up and I quit my job, and so I decided to go into business for myself.
Other shops like this always go by market sector and age-group.
They don't generally have anything for over the 12s.
But kids over 12 can't very well wear adult clothes but they certainly don't want to dress like toddlers.
So I started to do an awful lot of research.
There's no market potential if you just sell clothes for younger kids in a small town.
The business wouldn't earn enough money.
This is my passion, but even so it has to pay the bills.
I wanted to do something fun and modern.
I wanted a teen look to my store and the fixtures had to be out of the ordinary.
As I'm a big fan of IKEA anyway at home I went to browse around and realised that IKEA stuff would actually be rather well suited to a shop.
The budget for the interior fittings, decor and the works was around about 10,000 euros.
And so our first stop was at the local IKEA.
The stress was getting to me a bit because I was worried what the final cost would be.
But as it turns out, I ended up getting everything I needed for less than 3000 euros. It was fantastic!
That allowed me to get whatever I wanted for the rest of the store because my IKEA trip came so far under budget.
I ended up choosing a mixture of old and new styles.
I settled on orange because the store really needed a splash of bright colour.
I also chose charcoal grey because it matches the shop front.
My husband is delighted with they way things turned out.
He wants to set his own business, too but in a different field.
I sincerely hope he'll do just as well as I have.
We'll both end up having followed our own dreams.
IKEA BUSINESS
With two daughters of her own, store owner Benedicte knew first hand about the difficulties of finding clothes that appeal to youngsters. So with limited funds and lots of enthusiasm she decided to start a fashion store for this age group. And for that, the youngsters in her town can be grateful. Today Les LouLous is a bright, modern store selling fashions they love.
