Familie Foto Kahle has existed for 110 years. I am the fifth generation.
We have now decided to open a branch here in Dresden -
that looks a little different to the others.
We do everything, advertising and portraits, weddings.
Passport photos too, and sell from the shop.
And whatever amateur photographers need they can find here.
The passion for photography was virtually fed to me with my mother's milk.
Gramps was the great grandmaster.
So it was clear that I was walking in their footsteps.
And that gives me a lot of fun and pleasure.
There is a wide catchment area here for various things.
For portraits, the whole thing. And that is why we decided -
to open the first branch here in Dresden.
We want to make it more youthful, and fresher and made our way to IKEA to get advice.
And we used the opportunity to buy the furniture from IKEA.
The customer must feel comfortable, not just me when I am working.
When they come in they should feel at home.
That is why we also have the couch and other things.
And that was reason enough to look at IKEA.
What do they have? Especially for businesses, counters etc.
We got good advice from someone who had the catalogue in their head.
We gave them a sketch. And they presented
a very nice design. "Here, try this".
Many people are afraid of photographers.
So you have to be a bit more careful with them.
We created the atmosphere of a living room here.
With the couch for example. And we close it off -
if they feel others are watching, and create a private area.
I had to persuade my boss a bit that it was ok.
He was very convinced about his shelf principle.
The whole thing was delivered by IKEA.
Everyone helped -
so we were able to put it together on a Saturday.
But it all went really fast so we could keep to the opening deadline.
Good, harmonious partnership.
I think that my father is especially proud
about how the shop looks. And my father feels very comfortable here.
He takes off his shoes. That makes the atmosphere.
And I think that is also good for the customers.
IKEA BUSINESS

A passion for photography runs in Christian Kahle’s blood. His grandfather, father and mother all work in the business. As a portrait photographer, he knows how important it is to make his customers feel at ease. That’s why stylish yet comfortable IKEA furniture was the natural choice for his compact studio.
